Below is a simple list of things you can do to help protect and restore Yosemite and the Merced River, and combat the commercialism of current park planning. The most urgent things are at the top of the list. As circumstances change, this list will be updated - so please check back from time to time. 1. Subscribe to the "Yosemite Updates" mailing list! This will keep you informed about planning developments, public comment periods, public meetings, rallies and events. The Updates will let you know more ways for you to make a difference. (Updates are normally published about once a month, but during busy periods may be published as often as once a week). Send email to FOYV.ORG 2. Call, write, fax or e-mail your representative and Senators and make them aware that the Yosemite Valley Plan and its projects would further develop Yosemite against the wishes of most Americans, and that ordinary citizens and families could be excluded from their national park by luxury development. *Tell your congressional representative that you disagree with the use of public and private money (the 1997 Flood Appropriation, the Fee Demo money and Yosemite Fund money) to further commercialize Yosemite. 3. Call the White House comment line at (202) 456-1111 and ask President Bush to halt the development drive initiated by former Interior Secretary Babbitt in Yosemite. 4. Write a letter to the editor of your local newspaper explaining the threat in Yosemite to your community. 5. Tell your friends and your network! Help us distribute the Yosemite Updates (on-line or on paper). 6. Contact us, and volunteer your talents or your time ( FOYV.ORG ). |
